Maria Assunta Nicoletti received the Laurea in Modern Languages from the University of Bologna, as well as advanced degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She studied at the Indiana University as a Fullbright Fellow. She is returning to Vassar, where she taught from 1983 to 1990. In 1991 she founded the Program in Italian Studies at Bard College. At Bard her teaching ranged from Italian Immersion to senior seminars: Sicilia come metafora, La voce femminile, Cultura e società 1940-2000. She also directed the Bard Summer Program in Bologna (ECCO) during its first year (1999-2000).
